This documentation provides step-by-step instructions on how to import glossary entries into Moodle using an XML file.


Step 1: Create a Glossary

  1. Go to your course page.

  2. Click Turn editing on.

  3. Select Add an activity or resourceGlossary.

  4. Enter the name of the glossary.

  5. Click Save and display.


Step 2: Import the XML File

  1. Inside the glossary activity, click Import entries.

  2. Upload the XML file in the File to import section.

  3. Under Destination, select one of the following:

    • Current glossary – to import into the existing glossary.

    • New glossary – to create a new one based on the file.

  4. (Optional) If you want to import category information, click the checkbox.

  5. Click submit.

  6. After submitting, Moodle will display a summary screen showing the import status:

    This means Moodle detected 10 entries in your XML file and successfully imported all of them.

  7. Click Continue to return to the glossary, where you can view all imported terms and definitions.
