In Moodle 4.5, AI works as an optional, assistive service that is activated only when a user chooses to use it. Moodle does not run AI models itself; instead, it sends user-initiated requests to configured external AI providers and returns the results for review. AI tools appear only in administrator-enabled locations called placements and are controlled by roles and permissions. Nothing is generated or changed automatically.

When enabled, AI can help educators draft, rewrite, and summarize course content, improve text clarity, and assist in creating quiz questions and feedback. All AI-generated content remains editable and must be reviewed by the user. Moodle’s AI features are designed to support teaching while maintaining administrator control, transparency, and data privacy.
